During the making of a reportage on a communist newspaper, a union member and a leftist activist disagree on how to present information, especially when finding a caption around two images: one of a protest in Portugal, the other of a strike in France.

Made alongside Anne-Marie Miéville, Godard became inspired after seeing a newspaper photo of leftist Portugese soldiers protesting their government. Taking issue with the accompanying text, the French master responded with this wholehearted probe into image-making that drifts into wistful romance.
