Superficially an action movie, Drive is actually a film in search of romance, zigzagging through an obstacle course of fairy tale and myth, and a hall of mirrors in which characters can be read as fantasy projections of others while being aware of themselves as figures inside a myth.

The visual and audio details, along with the perfectly cued pop music score, make Drive completely enthralling. . . . All are wonderful echoes of a blistering genre past, and in Drive they are brilliantly reimagined for a whole new generation of cinephiles to appreciate.

Drive not only met my hopes; it charged way over the speed limit, partly because it’s an unapologetically commercial picture that defies all the current trends in mainstream action filmmaking.

  • Skinnedteen's rating of the film Drive

Contemporary synthwave masterpiece! Refn definitely took filmmaking formulas from 70's action films esp. Cox's Repo Man with the alluring neon lighting, fashionably cool characters with Gostling's satin varsity/bomber jacket, that macho persona of driving classic muscle cars, fighting crimes and of course, falling in love and saving the girl they barely met. Even then, Drive delivers it all so well! A Cult Classic!

  • Pedro C. Alencastro's rating of the film Drive

Very interesting how, at the same time, the protagonist doesn't waste a single word and the director doesn't waste a single frame. Methodic, succind and beautiful.

  • porcelainfox's rating of the film Drive

Every shot in this film is oh, so perfectly constructed. The lighting and soundtrack are a like a constant mood stabilizer - the atmosphere is kept the same throughout the whole plot, which is maybe what makes the death scenes that much more unnerving. Mulligan and Gosling couldn't have performed any better, either. I'd definitely really like to see that sequel happen.

  • tiagovitoria's rating of the film Drive

Drive is one of the most sensational movies I've seen so far this year. From Ryan Gosling's astonishing acting till the wondrous imaginary of 80's action movies references - like Kavinsky samples on the soundtrack or the way Gosling's character dresses himself. It's a movie with a lot of personality, every second seems a brand new approach by Refn who tries to create a full grown individuality to the film.

  • Zandman75's rating of the film Drive

A unique, hard-hitting piece of modern cinema, Drive is saturated with talent, both behind and in front of the camera. In less skilled hands, it may have been bland and mainstream, but it's because Drive walks such a tightrope that it achieves greatness: like its protagonist, the movie is a fragile shell of calm, barely containing the brutality that pushes from within. Drive really kicked my head in. In a good way.

  • Ryan Michaels's rating of the film Drive

A perfect intersection of art-house sensibilities, B-movie escapism and one of the most gorgeous men on the planet, demonstrating just how far mega-watt charisma can propel a film. This thing's practically in my blood by now, I've absorbed it so thoroughly.

  • hastapura's rating of the film Drive

Felt like a revelation. Gorgeously shot, cast to perfection, and punctuated with moments of shocking violence (appropriately, Refn consulted Gaspar Noe on the finer points of smashing skulls). The neon-and-synth atmosphere is like Lost Highway by way of Blade Runner, using silence where its competition would push everything into the red; a less-is-more philosophy which extends to its quiet, resonant emotional core.

  • Ally the Manic Listmaker's rating of the film Drive

Not sure what to make of this. I was laughing the second Albert Brooks came on screen. And can't stand Ryan Gosling. Love Carey Mulligan, but she smiled too much, especially in the beginning. Passed on one of Refn's other films, because it looked terrible. The music and clothes were weird and '80s. THEN - there were cell phones in the movies, so I'm like, what it's present day?
