Our take

The colours! Jean Renoir’s irresistibly witty musical, a love letter to the irrational call of show business, is a late masterpiece from one of cinema’s greatest masters, who even past 60 could deliver such sprightly entertainment with a lifetime of wisdom flowing underneath. What a finale!
