I actually like this movie better than Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Jonah Hill and Russell Brand deliver non stop laughs in this fucking hilarious movie. Even P. Diddy brings a few laughs and I fucking hate P. Diddy.
A solid, amiable comedy that works in large part to the top-notch cast, particularly Jonah Hill, who effectively carries the film with his schlubby charisma. It's a bit too long, and crumbles in the final act when it tries too hard in some awkward attempts to follow the Apatow mold and have "heart" - but all in all it delivers some solid laughs.
"British motherfuckers don’t die. You ever heard of a fucking… a British R ‘N R star dying? No, none of them die. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, those Led Zeppelin… Them motherfuckers old as fuck. Fucking Ozzy Osbourne’s gonna outlive Miley Cyrus!"
Given surprising depth by Brand's performance, this is a manic, not totally successful comedic romp about the fickleness of the music industry and life in general. Hill does well with his schtick and Combs is unexpectedly hilarious in a small role but the film belongs to Brand. His turn may now be tired too but the moments of obvious reality - the jonesing scenes - show a willingness to bring a truth to the screen.
Takes off with Brand's study-in-excess rockstar persona from "Forgetting Sarah Marshall* and runs through a hilarious but loose hour and fourty minutes of popcorn fun...¶ when life hands you a Jeffrey, stroke the furry wall!!¶
