From the creator of the 'Fargo' TV show, this one takes a lot of risks with the superhero genre. It's definitely one of those shows with stuff to figure out. Not sure it can really go beyond the weaknesses of the genre, but it tries hard. It's better when it goes into the psyche of the characters. It has amazing visuals, which make it easier to get into the story.
Noah Hawley's stylistic flourishes from Fargo have ballooned here into full blown surrealism. Lynch, Gondry, and Jodorowsky are frequent references, but the show never forgets or sacrifices it's X-Men roots either. This is what super-hero films could look like with talented storytellers given artistic freedom. Any psychological thriller with multiple dance sequences is worth watching.
