Whether the film is good or bad is irrelevant, as its work was done long before it (eventually) hit cinemas. And it would essentially have to be a Renoir-level masterpiece to live up to the story of its own making, and without sounding disingenuous, it ain’t that. Maybe a good comparison would be Joseph Mankiewicz’s Cleopatra or Otto Preminger’s Rosebud, films that are far more interesting to talk about than to actually watch.

Some of the jokes don’t work, there’s a sloppiness to some of it… But, in general, it’s a bold audacious ridiculous movie, stupid as well as smart. In this context, stupid is not an insult. It’s a compliment. The movie is a comedy involving two semi-losers infiltrating the most reclusive country on earth with a cockamamie plan to poison the sitting dictator. Of course it’s stupid. I enjoy that kind of stupidity.

Rogen is far better at directing other performers—or at least performers who are not close friends—than he is at directing himself… The Interview’s depiction of a pressure-cooker cult of personality really is daring, in ways that go beyond the guest-dictator appearance of Saddam Hussein in The Big Lebowski or even the uproarious treachery of Kim Jong-il in Team America: World Police. Whether or not the real Kim tried to sabotage the movie, Park’s fictional Kim steals it.

"They hate us, 'cause they ain('t) us/They hate us 'cause we anus? The fuck does an anus have to do with this?/They hate us, cause they AIN'T us!" LMFAO./Eminem's "hatred" toward senior citizens on his song lyrics was hilarious and the missile impacting slo-mo the side of the helicopter to the sound of Perry's Firework mix was pretty dope. It's a Seth Rogen comedy not a Benning doc; get over it>and it's innocuous NK!

  • HKFanatic's rating of the film The Interview

In light of its perhaps politically inadvisable premise, "The Interview" proved much funnier than I ever expected. At the end of the day, the film is nothing more or less than another solid entry in the Seth Rogen 'bromance' genre. I savored the unexpected moments of gonzo ultra-violence, which made me wonder if Rogen and co. were offering a deliberate nod to extreme Asian cinema thanks to the film's Korean setting.

'They hate us because they ain't us !' Lighten up world it's a freakin comedy. And surprise surprise after all the vitriol and controversy it's actually pretty funny. Disrespectful yes. Politically incorrect and unsound..yes. bet. Not consistent in the yucks but the moments make up for the lulls. Get over the controversy, get over yourself, and enjoy. ''re so hairy like a bear...'

  • Daniel Roque's rating of the film The Interview

As a comedy - this is bad. As an act of creative expression - this is bad. As a booster to the World War III - this is bad. As a way to waste people's time and make a lot of money out of it - hell yeah, good job Sony!

  • Jason's rating of the film The Interview

The fact that the majority of the things that are godawful about this movie that suspicious-seeming circumstances tricked us all into grudgingly seeing are presumably intentionally so (I can think of no other explanation) is not much consolation.

  • anarresti's rating of the film The Interview

You can have a (arguably) bad film and still a good comedy, like Dumb & Dumber. Or cheap humour, or whatever you want to call it. You can have a good film and still laugh 'till tears fill your eyes, like with Liar Liar. And the history of Cinema has a long tradition of comedies that are masterpieces. This... is supposed to be a comedy. Unless it is aimed for the dictator's personal humour, I'm missing something.

  • Francisco R.'s rating of the film The Interview

So the US can safely endorse the killing of an unwanted leader, a social pariah, under the terms of 'freedom of expression', but is completely intolerant towards any form of retaliation from a country we know is hostile to say the least. Had North Korea made a film about 'Killing Barack Obama' I wonder if the consequences would have been any different. The Best-Country-in-the-World Syndrome strikes again.

  • André Vieira's rating of the film The Interview

This led to what i was expecting. A comedy filled with penis and fart jokes, great soundtrack but nothing to make you (really) laugh out loud. I love Seth Rogen's dark humour but this was kinda of a let down like 'Neighbors'. I miss 'Superbad'.
