This lacks the sweetness and terseness of Richard Linklater's Before Sunset, which Delpy cowrote, but it's more satirical and casual in its approach, and Delpy's grasp of the material is assured.
Though the wrap-up to the film and the couple’s widening rift is decidedly bobbled with an uneasy preponderance of voice-over, it’s nice to see that even the healthiest, snappiest cynic can’t help concluding that Paris is indeed for lovers.
Delpy shows Linklater’s influence in her willingness to let actors work and walk at length, and she has an unusually playful style for an actor turned filmmaker.
