At first glance, details and events may not seem coherent, but they find their meaning in the rhizomic form of the film: the Tibetan Book of the Dead, family and DMT are melt into something bigger. It starts in subjective view (with the regular and intoxicating blinking of the character’s eyelids) then continues in third person view; once rid of his body, the camera sets out to make you become a soul. Just that !
This film is something I have never experienced that deals with a lot of different themes , one of those that I feel is constantly looked over by many is the advent of the butterfly effect and how this plays out the story. The film is done amazingly with great camera work and beautiful visuals and lastly with the amazing intro that is brilliant . The film does tend to lose momentum towards the end.
Top 5 fav. Movies. SUPER INTENSE, hard to watch at times, visually the most cinematically striking film I've enjoyed. Think lost in translation mixed with an Acid trip (though its DMT, but many are not as familiar with this substance thats within every living being on earth, released when you dream & when you die, & is used in ceremony with Shamans in south America with the name "Ayahuasca") mixed with a love story.
The film is set in a dimension that transcends form. It’s eternally ensconced in perpetual movement. It’s everything that ticks nerves into a cold sweat. The film is made up of many rules: elements that define a space only to see it get swallowed up. The place where this winds up is the Void. Viewing this, as a sentient and impermanent blip in a more celestial view of things, was a test of my empathetic being.
The grey smokey light is to be avoided. Not totally in keeping with the Tibetan Book of he Dead - the best rebirths come as first choice ~ sperm seen as hotspots on the sun goes a bit too far. The come down after the female orgasm seems to be the safest and most rewarding place to be.
Another very exhausting and painful watch in the best way. Whilst overly long and draining, its presentation and story is unlike anything else and will either utterly entrance or completely disgust. As it drew closer to its conclusion I do wish it was a little trimmed down, but without its warts and all I doubt it would be quite as memorable a film as what we get.
