I was in love until about halfway through. I have a real distaste for being spoonfed, and even a single line of dialogue here was one spoonful too many. Just imagine The Machinist of an Asian diaspora. I don't mean to imply it's without it's charms, and of course if Doyle is involved it'll be visually appealing. One long week of deja vu, and a perpetual 3am walk with the feeling that your footsteps are being watched.
I went in to this assuming that it was a follow-up to Last Life in the Universe. It isn't, so I was a bit disappointed; however I think this is a really beautiful film. The story can be a bit confusing but it draws your attention regardless, and Doyle's cinematographic style is gorgeous as usual.
Follow up of Last Life In The Universe? No. That film felt like a meditative experience and has a dream like state to it summarising it completely. This one still has it's moments, while on the cruise ship I was mislead thinking that a ghost ship may be implemented and perhaps it was a life after death purgatory interpretation but my pull towards that thinking isn't there given the outcome and lacklustre summary.
