Oblivion Disutradarai oleh Joseph Kosinski
Like director Joseph Kosinski’s debut, “TRON: Legacy” (2010), “Oblivion” is a special effects extravaganza with a lot of blatant symbolism and very little meaning. It starts slow, turns dull and then becomes tedious — which makes it a marginal improvement over the earlier film. It features shiny surfaces, clicky machinery and no recognizable human behavior. It’s equally ambitious and gormless.

I’m sure some people will see “Oblivion” as another Philip K. Dick rehash — to be clear, it’s not based on any of his material — but to my mind Kosinski and co-writers Karl Gajdusek and Michael Arndt have synthesized all these influences [Blade Runner, Total Recall, Solaris, et al.] into a witty and elegant post-apocalyptic parable that’s well suited to our age of asymmetrical warfare and even asymmetrical reality.

Oblivion is interested in neither homage nor the postmodern condition. It’s a flaccid pastiche — and more insultingly, one that assumes its audience doesn’t know Jack.

  • mjgildea's rating of the film Oblivion

3 1/2 out of 5 stars. Oblivion is better than the pretty borefest the preview lead me to believe it'd be. Still nothing amazing, just a nice mashup of/homage to 60s & 70s sci-fi movies (namely Planet of the Apes, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Omega Man) while being very reminiscent of Moon. Don't get me wrong, it still has all the dog ears and dings any Tom Cruise movie has, this one just seemed a little easier to digest.

  • J. O.'s rating of the film Oblivion

A fairly average and predictable sci-fi story told via incredible special effects - many of which were practical, a refreshing change of pace. The cinematography was sharp and beautiful, the effects were subtle but futuristic and fun. Performance-wise, Tom Cruise did a surprisingly good job as Jack, the haunted remnant of humanity. Despite the corny final moments (at least they looked good) this was worth watching.

  • Didar Merve's rating of the film Oblivion

In this kind of movies, trying to balance romance between action and catastrophic world atmosphere between new hopes can be pathetic, lame and unsuccessful as it can be seen in Oblivion. For an easy script, this was a too long and ordinary movie except beautiful cinematography of course. By the way, is it just me who thinks that Tom Cruise's face is melting day by day?

  • anarresti's rating of the film Oblivion

Nice. Watching this is a good way to get away from the clichés that became the dystopian lanscape in mainstream sci-fi, the last 3 years. Good story and very nice sense of rhythm.

  • Palmat's rating of the film Oblivion

Really liked this one despite the tepid reactions and reviews. I had stayed spoiler free for once and while the movie was hardly origina,l I enjoyed the twists and turns of the story. The beginning was really slow but it picked up steam along the way and the third reel was solid. Cruise was great as always and the visuals stunning. So if you get passed the slow intro, and some of the derivative plotting, you're good!

  • OFF_FRAME's rating of the film Oblivion

Coming off as a big budget blend of MOON meets the original Planet of the Apes with none of the subtlety and full of the usual dialogue that states the obvious, Oblivion is engaging to watch mainly because it's story honours sci-fi and the anti-hero. Decidedly less chest-thumping than most American blockbusters it still suffers from terrible acting and predictable plotting but boasts arresting visuals. 2.5 stars

  • Thomas's rating of the film Oblivion

An exquisitely realised sci-fi adventure with a well conceived plot and script. The design and cinematography are particularly spectacular.

  • thmslhr's rating of the film Oblivion

Oblivion might not be very original, frankly it seems more like a compilation of sci-fi clichés, but it worked for me. And the visuals makes up for the somewhat lacking story and dialog. Not being a fan of M83, I was pleasently surprised by how good the soundtrack was. The ending might be the film's weakest point, but the end credits song (featuring Susanne Sundfør) makes the film end on a highnote anyway. 4/5.
