This is one of the most delightful films Danny Boyle ever made and received a well deserved Oscar for this very touching film. This is the kind of shit that usually wins Oscars but it just has a certain flair to it that makes it feel like something special. Plus the music is fucking great too.
Would give 4.5, if possible, but am glad to give 5 and counterbalance all the art-house folks who would rather be accused of murder than caught lauding a multiple Oscar winner. This is a moving film with a good pace. Sometimes subtly funny, sometimes hilarious. It's excellently filmed and edited. One also learns a good deal about India along the way. Oh, and the colours!
Waited a few years to finally see this one and am pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It's outstanding. Definitely a feel-good tale, but by way of a sort of "City of God" type story. 4/5 for me.
People shit on this movie way too much. It's a fairy tale, essentially. If you're looking for a realism, look elsewhere. Slumdog Millionaire is a movie about fate and love, the former being something I don't subscribe to; regardless, Boyle shot/edited this film so kinetically, plus Rahman's awesome score, etc. I think this movie is a hell of a lot of fun and pretty uplifting. Best Picture of 2008? No. Doesn't matter!
Well, it certainly wasn't the best film of the year (but since when did they give out Oscars for that?), and it wasn't Danny Boyle's best film, but it was still quite a solid piece with some great acting from the kids and some brilliant cinematography. It doesn't deserve all the backlash it's gotten.
interesting in many of the aspects that it tries to investigate. but in the process of doing so, it betrays the many flaws that hold it back from getting anywhere near the utterly overblown hype it generated. a good, solid film from boyle, but no masterpiece and certainly nowhere near 'trainspotting'.
