Ulasan Kritikus

As Goldblum’s scientist transforms into a giant insect, the more sympathy he arouses in the journalist who’s fallen for him. Some critics have read the film as an AIDS metaphor; and on that level, it ranks with the best of Derek Jarman and Todd Haynes. But the central romance—in which love is strengthened by the impossibility of love—resonates in a number of directions, sustaining the film across multiple viewings.

It’s still brilliant and perfect, and profoundly moving—maybe Cronenberg’s greatest and most perfect film; a horror tragedy that doesn’t cop out, ever. Deftly combining aspects of romantic comedy, science fiction, gross-out midnight movie, and parable of the consequences of hubris, The Fly also works as a metaphor for what happens to couples and individuals when the body breaks down, decays, or merely ages.

Apa kata orang-orang?

  • Nicholas Gregory's rating of the film The Fly

It’s with irony that the most mainstream of Cronenberg’s body-horror subversions is his best. The Fly is a more signature classic Universal Monster tragedy than even those early films were—and uninhibited by censors, politeness, and early f/x—since it mixes in many emotional tones more successfully, while building its grotesque horror with increasing sizzle, until it terrifies and breaks your heart with its outcome.

  • Not A Sexy Vampire's rating of the film The Fly

Kind of amazing how many tones The Fly is able to handle. From sweet romance to disgusting body horror and a devastating emotional climax which brought me to tears, it shifts modes easily and winningly. Can't help but see this as a metaphor for AIDS despite Cronenberg's efforts so maybe that's part of the reason this wrecked me a little bit. Davis and Goldblum are great, hated the other guy. He deserved worse.

  • Richmond Hill's rating of the film The Fly

A straightforward exposition reveals a surprisingly tender tragedy which doesn't dwell on cod-scientific detail, instead the implications of disease, decay and death. A noticeable emotional refinement of the raw meat body-horror of earlier Cronenberg despite the quantities of gloop. It's not too fanciful to draw lineage with Quasimodo, Elephant Man and Metamorphosis for societal attitudes to perceived deformity.

  • HKFanatic's rating of the film The Fly

For decades, "The Fly" has maintained a reputation as the most commercial and accessible of David Cronenberg's 'body horror' canon - which might be true, but it's also ironic that a film this somber, this truly sad could be called commercial. "The Fly" proves an ideal fit for Cronenberg's mad genius - his patented themes of body transmorphism anchored, for a change, to a relationship that registers as warm and human.

  • msmichel's rating of the film The Fly

Cronenberg's reinvention of the classic horror film was truly astounding on release and still impresses thoroughly now. What makes this examination of the body in revolt so special is the love story at the very root of it. Goldblum was at his very best here well supported by Geena Davis. The Oscar winning makeup is exceptional as is the scripting. "You can't penetrate beyond society's sick, gray, fear of the flesh"

  • Michael H. CLAES's rating of the film The Fly

Even if I like Jeff GOLDBLUM and immensely admire Cronenberg, this film was a dissapointment to me. The original (The Fly, Kurt Neumann, 1958, inspired from a short sory by George Langelaan) remained unbeatable to me.

  • Filipe F. Coutinho's rating of the film The Fly

Every decision in this film is the right one (including pre-production like casting Jeff Goldblum and his girlfriend at the time). It's a near perfect cinematic experience that is infinitely more complex that many lead to believe, a beautifully nuanced romance built upon one our greatest fears: change.

  • Francisco R.'s rating of the film The Fly

One of the very few horror films in which I've really cared for its characters, and then I realized how striking this was for me as a tragic romance rather than a social commentary on something, which is the opposite of what I've felt in most Cronenberg films so far.
