At the Doll House, a 1930’s New Orleans bordello, Hallie is the main attraction both for clients and for Jo, the madame. Her comfortable if tedious life is disrupted by the arrival in town of Dove Linkhorn, her true love of three years before who is now searching for her.

Under rated adaptation of the Nelson Algren novel that finds an artist/bordello worker being pursued by an ex-boyfriend from a more innocent past who wants to marry her and later save her. Trio of strong female performances in Capucine, Anne Baxter and Jane Fonda that overcome weaker turns by miscast Laurence Harvey and a too safely written character portrayed by B. Stanwyck. Dated and somewhat lurid but fascinating.
'Chances of going to heaven, 6:1'. "Did you get that Brancusi? I asked around; no -one ever heard of him. He's a sculptor darling. Like me". It's trash but somehow it's also genius. Laurence Harvey's accent checks out everywhere between Texas and North Yorkshire. Meanwhile Capucine's cheekbones slay everyone in their path and Jane Fonda reduces the scenery to rubble.
Not a good movie. Saul Bass's credits are the high point. However, the film stars Capucine, and I have always had a soft spot for her. She was used better in comedy than drama but I suspect she could have done more if she was asked, and she was as fine a clotheshorse as Silvana Mangano. In her second film, Jane Fonda is also a treat. Stanwyck, whom I adore, is camp, as she was in "The Violent Men."
