Sinopsis

Adapted from the 1951 non-fiction account by psychoanalyst Georges Devereux, the film follows the true story of Picard, a Plains Indian of the Blackfeet nation, who underwent psychotherapy with Devereux as he returned from WWII and began experiencing unexplainable symptoms shortly thereafter.

Pendapat kami

Director Arnaud Desplechin has a new film in Cannes this year, inspiring us to revive one of his strangest yet most compelling melodramas. A poignant character portrait of a unique cross-cultural friendship, the film is also a tremendous showcase for actors Benicio Del Toro and Mathieu Amalric.

Everything is said, but little is understood. How many times, the movie asks, can we avoid reading between the lines?

While onscreen therapy is hardly a novelty in the era of “The Sopranos,” “In Treatment” and David Cronenberg’s “A Dangerous Method,” few films have focused so intently on the minutiae of psychoanalysis as Desplechin does here — an uncompromising strategy that will undoubtedly distance some viewers while drawing others further in.
