“The mystification of “auteur film” is one of the greatest delusions. A healthy cinema requires constitutive industry with things like screenwriters’ departments, but all that vanished with the arrival of auteurs – plain diletants, actually. Such diletantism was covered up with so-called experiments that took over the western models like Antonioni, Godard, etc. Such snobbish, mannerist copying of the foreign idols destroyed all standards that previously existed.”
