Recensioni e valutazioni

  • J. O.'s rating of the film Maniac

Enjoyable, vapid arthouse series that cares so little about plot it's infectious - and we all start to care very little. Instead, we're sucked into the bizarre retro-futuristic period fantasy full of genre bending silliness. Emma Stone has always been irritating to me, but this was tolerable. The series has a beautiful and hypnotic style, over all else.

  • HKFanatic's rating of the film Maniac

"Maniac" might be a clear triumph of style over substance—but what style it is! This Netflix series seems to exist as a blank canvas for director Cary Joji Fukunaga, who has the freedom to try out so many genres and styles, from high fantasy to spy thriller, and surprisingly none of them resemble "True Detective"; to the point that the best episodes are the ones that do nothing to advance "the plot," such as it is.

  • MATTEO BITTANTI's rating of the film Maniac

A dash of Gondry and Kaufman, plenty of Lost and some Mr. Robot... It feels like Inception: The TV Series. It gets annoying very quickly. The constant chain smoking makes the viewing experience physically sickening. I thought it was a conspiracy theory, but the data speak for themselves: Netflix’s shows feature twice as many cigarettes as other TV channels https://bit.ly/2P0AdG7 Maniac is a 10+ hour long tobacco ad.

  • Matthew Martens's rating of the film Maniac

While I can't say that Maniac's conclusion fulfills the promise of its first episode--nor, lord knows, that it redeems the all too eternal-seeming tedium of its spot-ridden, shapeless middle--I still thought it was, you know, really nice. Not worth waiting for, no, but if you do wait for it, it's nice that it's so nice. I also liked the music, Brooklyn Public Library Bus Terminal, and people being smaller back then.

  • Wee Hunk's rating of the film Maniac

At a certain point we run out of fresh content or new ideas, so content becomes a remix of all the old stuff. That's why you've seen this before. Is it 'Lost' or 'Legion''? We paste on happy endings because that's what the audience wants. There has to be some resolution to this 10 episode festival of all your favorite ideas regurgitated for you.

  • Aivaras_Z's rating of the film Maniac

Some very interesting ideas here (as if building on "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), and Fukunaga's stylish approach helps to emphasize this even further. Last but not least, lo and behold - Jonah Hill can act!

  • sahandmohajer's rating of the film Maniac

for a tv show to have a cropped cinematic aspect ratio is silly and gimmicky. so is everything else about Maniac. there is absolutely nothing under the surface here.

  • Terry_Moby's rating of the film Maniac

Although it is not nominally based on one (or more) of his works, this is the best Philip K. Dick universe on film (or television or any screen) yet. It is totally superior to the muddled "electric dreams" - Channel Four series. The casual description of a retro-futuristic world and the emphasis on the psychotic (and laughable) sides of the characters without ever exposing them - this is it!
