A watchable if unessential early Giallo, which lacks a lot of the more expressive stylisations & unravelling pop psychologies of subsequent efforts, but still manages to distinguish itself through a novel use of Irish locations. Freda's film develops a bit of a nasty streak towards the end & isn't elevated by a rich visual style, but the machinations of the story & the unfolding of its central mystery are engaging.
**1/2. Uneven film, I was torn throughout the whole movie between two feelings: I like it, I don't like it and so on. I liked the scene on the Irish cliffs, I didn't like the uncool special effects, I liked Valentina Cortese's character, I didn't like the countless unnecessary supporting cast. I liked Cipriani's musical score, I didn't like the movie's sound effects. So all in all, almost already forgotten.
