Summed up - there was a lot of potential squandered, something we can all expect from Synder. Some good performances, wonderful effects, beautiful set pieces, interesting (adapted) stories... but it all amounts to nothing. Admittedly, enjoyed the director's a lot more than the theatrical.
I will stan for this movie forever. Granted, most of its successes are Moore's, but Snyder gave us what is probably the best of all possible Watchmen films (seriously, research some of the alternate versions--terrifying!), and for that, I'll always sort of owe him one.
I'm not as spellbound several viewings later as I initially was but Watchmen is still impressive. I almost like this ending better than the giant squid version from the comics. Its damn faithful to the original book and despite the 3 hour running time of the director's cut it didn't have me looking at my watch much. Unfortunately the shitty cover of "Desolation Row" at the end didn't help.
I find it humorous how many people didn't like this movie because it followed the comic too closely. Any director who carries around the source material on set like a bible gets my respect and is clearly someone who respects the source they are adapting. The movie itself though I thought was fantastic, nicely paced (even the director's cut) and goes by in a flash. Kudos for putting Dylan and Hendrix in as well
