The New Directors/New Films (ND/NF) Festival is an annual film festival organized jointly by the Museum of Modern Art and the Film Society of Lincoln Center and held every spring in New York City. Established in 1972, ND/NF generally focuses on films from first-time directors, although there are often a few directors with previously released work (whether that work was widely seen is another matter).
The ND/NF lineup tends to include a number of debuts that have previously screened elsewhere on the festival circuit, especially Sundance and South by Southwest, which precede it in the calendar (being held in mid-to-late winter). Also, it is a non-competitive festival and therefore has no ‘awards’ buzz to attract the media. Despite this, ND/NF is worthy of attention by virtue of its near half-century of continuity, its media-friendly location in New York City, and most of all the quality and diversity of films being shown.
Should a record of Opening and Closing Night films become available, I will add lists for those. Otherwise, this will be a series of lists of the films shown each year (in alphabetical order).Read less
