2013: film diary

JANUARY 01.01: ‘Se oss flyga över scenen i fruktansvärda hastigheter’ (Klungan, 2012) – SVTplay. Rating: 4 out of 5 stars. Beginning and end were great, but their previous play ‘Det är vi som är hemgiften’ was much better. 02.01: ‘Vicky Christina Barcelona’ (Woody Allen, 2008) – Netflix. Rating: 4 out of 5 stars. Not my favourite WA-film, but I enjoyed it quite a lot anyway. A bit sloppy technically at times, which strangely enough only amused me. The best part of the movie; when the threesomecouple are happy together, what a high! 03.01: ‘Reel’ (Jens Choong, 2012) – Vimeo. Shortfilm selected for GIFF. Rating: 4 out of 5 stars. 01.01: ‘Se oss flyga över scenen i fruktansvärda hastigheter’ (Klungan, 2012) – SVTplay.

Not so original storywise, but beautifully told. Well-acted, well cast, editing that feels fresh & stunning photo. Very warm and hearfelt about young love between two boys.

05.01: ‘Lightning over water’ (Nicholas Ray & Wim Wenders, 1980) – Netflix. Rating: 1 out of 5 stars. Didn’t like this at all. Not a huge fan of Wim Wenders’ documentaries at all (except Pina), but this one felt perticularly staged & fake somehow. Like the 2 directors cant act/play themselves in a believable manner. Staging scenes from plays like King Lear & acting them out themselves is kind of a good idea, but somehow just doesn’t work. The best about this movie though is making Nicholas Rays last days meaningful and perhaps giving him something besides his pain and cancer to focus on, but as a film in its own right; not very good.

05.01: ‘Suspiria’ (Dario Argento, 1977) – downloaded from the internet (hehe, ops). Had some problems overcoming the bad dubbing, but everything besides that was perfect! Loved the dramaturgy which felt different and new, and the soundscape + scenography + cinematography + lightning + costumes was of course genious! This is the kind of movie you wish you’d made yourself.

07.01: ‘Saraband’ (Ingmar Bergman, 2003) – downloaded.

09.01: ‘Code unknown’ (Michael Haneke, ) – MUBI.

09.01: ‘Jesus Camp’ () – downloaded.

09.01: Twin Peaks pilot (David Lynch) – downloaded.

10.01: Pierrot le fou (Jean Luc Godard) – downloaded.

10.01: In Treatment episode 14 & 15, season 2 – downloaded.

11.01 La Belle Personne (Christopher Honore, ) – downloaded. 5th or 6th view.

12.01: The Master (Paul Thomas Andersson, 2012) – DVD

12.01 Twin Peaks episode 1 (David Lynch, 1990) – downloaded. 4th view.

12.01: Kon-Tiki (Espen Sandberg og Joachim Rønning, 2012). DVD.

14.01: Dans la maison (Francois Ozon, 2012) – Tromsø International Film Festival. A real downer. Liked the metaperspective, but it was way too shallow and annoying. It had a weird plot that didnt intrigue and was full of generalizations/charicatures of classes to such a degree it became uninteresting. The best thing about it was its funpoking at the uselessness of (modern) art with its bullshit philosophies and the exploitation of human suffering/emotion when “real” people become characters in a story/plot/work of fiction. 2 out of 5 stars.

14.01: Wien Museum () – TIFF. 4 out of 5 stars. Contemplative, slow, with room for thought. Felt fresh and new. Loved it.

14.01: Me too (Aleksey Balabanov, 2012) – TIFF. Exactly what I want to watch, exactly the kind of movie I want to make. 5 out of 5 stars.
