2007 was a mammoth year for American cinema with juicy offerings from both established and budding auteurs. Outside the US “visceral” was the thème du jour, with controversial and engaging offerings from Taiwan, Mexico, France, the UK and Peter Greenaway (a man worthy of being declared his own walking sovereign state – along with Werner Herzog and Alejandro Jodorowsky).
