It is currently January 3, 2010, and I still have plenty of films to see from last year. Due to certain delayed release dates, DVD availability and Netflix Instant Viewing availability, the list I am assembling today will only be a preliminary one – a full one will most likely be up and running by the beginning of March. It is currently January 3, 2010, and I still have plenty of films to see from last year. Due to certain delayed release dates, DVD availability and Netflix Instant Viewing availability, the list I am assembling today will only be a preliminary one – a full one will most likely be up and running by the beginning of March. Thus, this one will be incomplete. I also do not necessarily stick with the “10 Best” format. I choose films that were not only technically superior but also emotional transcendent, at least to me, the novice film patron in his mid-twenties. The list will also change throughout the year. The images and sounds inevitably fade and only some leave considerable residue. Last year, my “Best of…” list ended up consisting of a measly four films. So, even though the list contains elements squarely within a given calendar year – and based soley on domestic US release dates – my “Best of…” lists continually adapt and evolve depending on me, the viewer.
