2009 was a fairly dismal year for movies in my opinion, so here’s to hoping that 2010 is a bit better. The list that follows is the best of what I saw, though in a better year some would certainly not make the cut. The best for me was The White Ribbon, Michael Haneke’s palme d’or winning masterpiece about a small town in pre-First World War Germany. I have long admired Haneke for his boundary-pushing cinema, but this movie managed to be disturbing with innuendo and rumour. A stunning film. The rest are listed in no particular order.
