Zombies, from a social perspective, are the modern mythology. We’re all fascinated by the dead and with monsters, and the genre combines these two for us. They sort of represent the fear we have in other members of society, and ourselves, chaos, rioting, our capacity for hunger, and our need for violence. Watching zombie films is a testament to both our need to be prepared for disasters, and our desire to participate in violence without repercussions. And cinematically, zombie movies are guttural and rebellious, like rock and roll. They’re terrifying and fun! It’s fun to picture that it could happen anytime, and there you’ll be, fighting a million to one odds, involved in a global struggle, and you could fight your way to survival to end up a hero!
So, I love zombies to death.
