Climate fiction (abbreviated as cli-fi) is fictional content about anthropogenic effects of climate change on the planet. The infamous post-apocalyptic flicks touch on the subject, but I dare to say that they are not cli-fi films “par excellence”. Moreover, films adapted from cli-fi books (Barbara Kingsolver’s Flight Behavior for example) have not yet been made, leaving an uncomfortable cinematographic vacuum in the present times. This list takes the initiative, which can be seen as a tentative showcase, but with some caveats. Its differential is its heterogeneity, presenting diverse genres from different eras (basically sci-fi and drama) in which climate effects serves as a backdrop, with more or less prominence, but always carrying attributes of a true character, such is its influence on the narrative. “They narrate stories which are rich in allegories, a central feature of climate films (DeLoughrey, 2019). They aim at cultivating an everyday ecological sensibility which is not necessarily centred around issue-based environmental politics” (Lakshmi Pradeep).
