The Lenten Film Series, historically, has provided us with an opportunity to engage in the spiritual discipline of Lament between Ash Wednesday & Palm Sunday. To quote Emmanuel Katongole, “The discipline of lament not only allows us to see the depth of the world’s brokenness (including our own and the church’s complicity in it); it also shapes reconciliation as a journey that involves truth, conversion, and forgiveness.” The pursuit of reconciliation & resurrection is first a pursuit of suffering, sacrifice, and ultimately death – whether symbolic or literal. This year’s movies will focus on modern male insecurity & shame, and how that creates dishonesty & violence in relationship to women, men, and God. The films will be intentionally difficult to watch, but there will be some guidance with how to understand & process these images. Contact Kyle @ restorative.peacemaking@gmail.com if interested. Six films will be shown at the CV office on Saturday evenings at 7:45pm, March 8th through April 12th.
