Melting Australians, plant monsters, yo-yos as a standard weapon against terrorists, randoms bands of supermodels/gymnasts swinging about in the trees in the woods, and Jean-Claude Van Damme trying to pass off as an American…all of it delighted me more than films that were far better made. The Surrealists may have had completely different reasons for watching and delighting in bad films in their day, but the use of editing, acting, inappropriate shifts in tone, and the many of other clever techniques in these films may have gotten a cheer from them.
