Down by the River

by rowdyman

The river as allegory, and not in a Joni Mitchell kind of way.

An additional television documentary about swimming and the allure of waterways and rivers is Haunts of the Black Masseur, which is apparently based on the book by Charles Sprawson: “Haunts of the Black Masseur: the Swimmer as Hero”. The title that might not really fit in this is probably “The Swimmer” in which Burt Lancaster creates a virtual river by swimming through all of his neighbour’s pools in an attempt to swim home across the valley.
