Extreme movies: 1990s-2000s

I noticed that a particular aesthetic or value in movies came to promenance in a lot of movies of the ‘90s and ’00s that I hadn’t seen as much of before or sense-a feeling that the movie was actively trying to push the viewer as far out of their comfort zone as possible and into a revelatory state of disgust, or sadness, or disbelief, or something. This is an idea that’s hard to articulate for me, but this is a list of my favorite movies from this era of film that I believe do exactly that.
