These three have inspired me to go into film. They have also influenced the way I film my movies.
I love Kubrick’s filming. The long continuous shots are amazing, especially in The Shining. I am kind of sucker for really good hallway shots.
David Lynch’s filming is more artistic. The lighting and visuals make you feel like you are in a dream. I love the way he sets up his films as well. He takes all the ideas he has and links them together and they fit and work with each other.
Alfred Hitchcock is an influence with his great stories. I also love the way he takes the actors out of their element. Normal/stereotypical actors in the 40’s or so are usually over dramatic and fake. Hitchcock seems to take them out of this safety zone and put them in situations that make them act in new ways. He takes a normal over dramatic actress and puts her in a situation where, instead of just being weak, she has to fight, either to survive or to get people to believe her.
