These are all films that made me think about what is it that makes something “authentic”. Not really sure what specifics do movies have to have to be on this list. I guess, basically, there has to be: 1.- An original or unique (or apparently original or unique) something, person or object 2.- An imitation or a copy of the original that is either so well made or so sure of its own authenticity that it makes you, the viewer, doubt if it’s fair to call it a copy or an imitation.
I’m only including films I’ve seen, but since I read Cynthia Ozick “The Puttermesser papers” I became really interested (more like obsessed) with the subject, so I’d appreciate any recommendations. That is if anyone ever notices this list and it doesn’t fall into the pit of forgotten MUBI lists, which is fine with me. I don’t mind writing for myself.
