A WORK IN PROGRESS;

Back in the day, all the major American studios had a variety of stock bit players and character actors, in addition to its stars. These were “types” that were seen over and over again, playing virtually the same role. Their faces were their fortune, and unless you were a movie fanatic, you probably didn’t know their names. Some went on to become stars, but for most, the glamour and celebrity was not within their grasp. They made the stars look good and have even earned their respect, but they rarely shared the glory of the limelight.

So many of these actors and actress’ began their careers in ’30’s and ’40’s Hollywood, but moved on to television in the ’50’s. I wanted to share their younger faces, with their names of course, along with an example of where you may have seen them before TV. The pickings are limited from the "MUBI’ database, so even though they have parts in these films, they may not represent the best of what this catagory implies. Please bare with the progress. I’m going to break the lists in to a series of catagories, as follows:

- DON’T TRUST THESE MUGS – society drop-outs, plug-uglies, seedy, mean tempered & sadistic.
- CHEAP WOMEN – heart-of-gold with plucked & penciled eyebrows, too much lipstick, maybe the hoodlums moll & usually starved for romance.
- NOSEY LADIES & GENTS – snoops, gossips, caustic tongues, nervous fussbudgets & henpecked husbands.
- LOSERS, ONE & ALL – losing life, limb, jobs, girls, family, sanity, property & reputation.
