The master of suspense and one of my favorite directors. Hitchcock is an interesting figure in the history of the film for his unique positioning between “high” art and “low.” He delivers popular thrills, never talks down to his audience, but was always a relentless innovator. The sheer number of great films in his filmography is incredible. Vertigo is my very favorite film, and Notorious and a few others are up there as well. I’m still looking forward to discovering more of Hitch’s silent films.
