Exactly what it says: favorite Japanese movies. My ardor’s cooled on a few that have been dropped from an earlier incarnation of this list.

My favorite national cinema, along with the American. In its “golden age” an embarrassment of riches. I think it’s been on a downward slide for the last fifty years, as the below shows. Films about rapists, incessant masturbators, doomed yakuzas, and the confusions of sensitive schoolgirls do not tend to interest me much.
