Since first i saw Leonor Silveira in the film, in which she graced the screen (as a Madame Bovary figure) with a surpassing mystery and elegance, i’ve been very taken with the Portuguese actress, who is something of a muse for the centenarian director Manoel de Oliveira; a surprising number, indeed most, of her roles have been for him. I think she deserves her own list, wider renown and discovery.
