Impressive. Is this in any order?

It's roughly ordered by year. It started out as top 20 lists of my favorite American and non-American films of the 30s and 40s, I made a couple changes since I made those initial lists, but it's still approx. 40 films per year, 20 American, 20 non-American (which may account for the absence of some films—of course, the only film that I think would be in my top 400 that didn't appear in the top 20 for its year was Casablanca, which is absent from the 40s list).

is Girl with the Hatbox not 1920s? Have you seen Mizoguchi's Straits of Love and Hate?

Hatbox was a typo, I meant "The Thaw." I haven't seen Straits of Love and Hate; it's been on my list for awhile, but until the links at surrealmoviez are updated, I've got nowhere to see it.
