A brief explanation:
This list includes my favorite films from the 1930s sorted alphabetically by year. I selected 40 films from each year, 20 American productions and 20 non-American productions (including Anglophone films). As the list evolved, the balance of films from each year has shifted. The films are not ranked or weighted in any way.
Don’t snark about this list attempting to be authoritative or in any way completist—it is not. This list is constantly changing and evolving; films will come and go.
It is merely reflective of my personal preferences (and, of course, what I would recommend others to seek out).
So just enjoy it for that.
