This is a list of some of my favorite, and some of the most noteworthy films set in New York. For me, it’s not essential if the film was shot in New York, if it documents an area I’ve never been to, or what genre of film it is. What matters is if it feels like New York. Which, of course, could feel like just about anything. Just like the city itself, New York films are wildly varied, from Manhattan to the Hamptons, from the height of luxury to the depths of poverty.
