If you type in “best political movies” in a Google search, you will get several lists and recommendations on what to watch. The results they give, while good films themselves, are not what I seek, and I imagine others don’t either. When I seek recommendations on political movies, I am looking for films that show the process by which groups of politicians make decisions. With that said, here are some movies commonly seen on recommended political films that you won’t find here:
SCHNDLER’S LISTt – This is a great film. But the topic of the film is hardly an issue that politicians deal with much and it doesn’t show politicians.
MALCOLM X – This Spike Lee joint deals with social issues that played a huge role in the last century. But the film primarily addresses the issues and Malcolm X rather than showing how politicians used the landscape to garner support or to change the obstacles they faced in changing the landscape.
ALL THE PRESIDENT’S MEN – This films makes it onto many such lists because it showcases the Watergate Scandal. All The Presidents Men is a film that showcased the realm in which two reporters went after a story. It is more appropriately a film about journalism.
Many films that would be added to this list are not on the auteurs yet. The following films are going to be added when they are available.
The War Room
The American President
