I think the influence of Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins is unquestionable. This influence shaped, what were then known as ‘family’ entertainment franchises, and gave them adult style, be it in content (darker themes, psychology, philosophy) or in technique (grittiness, rapid cutting, neo-noir lighting, stoic performances), which became a hit with younger people. This is comparable to Frank Miller’s take on Batman, in comics, with The Dark Knight Returns.
It can be argued that Batman, TMNT, Bond, started out as ‘adult’ with the books or comics, but I’m basing these on the screen adaptations.
The quality of these films is debatable, I’m just cataloging. Any suggestions are welcome.Read less
