You’re a real weirdo. These will help you explore and expand upon that. Among these orphans are oft-maligned, overlooked and occasionally disputed masterpieces. Some of these are certainly better than others but they will all reveal themselves as notable in one way or another—most for being oddly compelling and bizarrely hilarious, and some for their undeniable brilliance. Among these orphans are oft-maligned, overlooked and occasionally disputed masterpieces. Some of these are certainly better than others but they will all reveal themselves as notable in one way or another—most for being oddly compelling and bizarrely hilarious, and some for their undeniable brilliance.

They are listed chronologically but there’s no particular order to seek them out. I’m exluding obvious signposts I already know you’ve seen (The Jerk, This Is Spinal Tap, Jackass 3-D, Firemen’s Ball, Wayne’s World, Blues Brothers, Dr. Strangelove…, Life of Brian, Billy Madison et al) and made sure not to exceed 70 films, so that with little effort, you should be able to locate and experience all of these within two years (and several of these aren’t even feature-length). That’s less than 3 a month; pretty reasonable if you ask me. Contact your local library, local video rental store and local internet (some are uploaded in their entirety on youtube). I have listed multiple movies by a few directors that I suspect you’ll want to see even more from. Let me know what you like and don’t like and I can easily direct you to another title. If you blow through this list…I’ve got plenty more that were difficult to excise.

-Mubi only has movies, but television shows very much worth seeking out are:
Strangers With Candy (1999-2000)
Get a Life (1990-1992)
It’s Garry Shandling’s Show (1986-1990)

This list will also serve as a helpful litmus test for identifying friends (and girlfriends) with equally strange comic sensibilities/alienating those that you hadn’t done so effectively yet.
