Most of those polled were from UK, USA, France- and the results are US-Euro dominated. This was the first time Kane came top, as it has done ever since. Rules of the Game was runne rup for decades too. It was the high point for Mizoguchi’s Ugetsu Monogatari, thanks in large part to French critics, some of whom became famous directors..
