The year I was born several silent movies were having a semi-acknowledged revival on account of being 50 years old. I took no notice of it at the time being otherwise engaged with feeding and making a spectacle by crying out for attention at the slightest excuse. Then I grew up and took notice, whilst still feeding and crying a lot. I discovered what all the very small fuss what about: cinema. I took no notice of it at the time being otherwise engaged with feeding and making a spectacle by crying out for attention at the slightest excuse. Then I grew up and took notice, whilst still feeding and crying a lot. I discovered what all the very small fuss what about: cinema. Cinema as in no films I had ever seen before were as beautiful as these. As engaging. As visually imaginative, provoking, crafty, unsafe to see, life-changing, out-of-the-box.
Eventually I got to know and love all sorts of films from all ages and most styles, but these still have an appeal I never found again (or very seldom) in “talkies”. So this is my insignificant little homage to them…
