Eighteen Orson Welles movies

Welles’ movies are central to what is known as Western Culture. Alongside Dreyer, Bresson, and Kubrick, he was the finest of his kind. His first feature was repeatedly voted the finest ever made for some thirty years running. In some circles it continues to be seen as such. Mr Arkadin was my favorite film for many years. I became obsessed with Welles. I made a theater piece where I played him putting on a one man Macbeth with a cast of tropical fruit as puppets. Welles is central to my idea of how an artist should behave in the world. The films themselves are byproducts of the practice he developed. I wish more filmmakers...
