To Hear the Images: Music and Musicians in Film

The creation of music is not all that dissimilar from the creation of a film. Music and cinema have often been intertwined, not only in the literal sense of having a score, but thematically, perhaps because the director feels so akin to the musician. Here are some of my favourite films whose central theme is music or the musician. Some are more obvious as music biopics, but other use music as the thing which binds the film together. There are many films which have great music and are not about music, but that is another list.
