This will be an ongoing list of my favourite films in the martial arts and the Jidaigeki genres. This was originally just going to be called the Martial Arts canon, then someone pointed out to me great samurai films and it made me think. I sometimes see samurai films categorized as martial arts film, sometimes I don’t, and I’m a bit conflicted myself, so I expanded the title so as to remove ambiguity.
