Others have their favorites that differ very much from the films I’ve placed here, and I have some other films I may have listed, like Gojira, Mothra, Big Man Japan and Pacific Rim or (a film of yet another kind) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, but this is a list I feel fairly happy to have made, as it challenges various notions about what one should value in this sort of film: like the (supposedly) most advanced special effects and what that term can be taken to mean.
