Not all sleaze is created equal. For every heralded roughie, nudie cutie, Jess Franco/Radley Metzger/Fred Olen Ray disasterpiece, there are dozens more that receive little to no recognition outside of the most devoted sleaze connoisseurs. Either due to their mainstream appeal, ostentatious art-house sensibility or genre classification. This list does not seek to compose any finite compendium of any mode of exploitation but, rather, to give credit to those sleazy films that may have fallen through the cracks either due to obscurity or misclassification. Either due to their mainstream appeal, ostentatious art-house sensibility or genre classification. This list does not seek to compose any finite compendium of any mode of exploitation but, rather, to give credit to those sleazy films that may have fallen through the cracks either due to obscurity or misclassification. Lists chronicling exploitation history exist already and I can hardly improve on them. This, instead, is meant to be a companion to those lists. These are the films that lay the sleaze on thick yet don’t let you know it from the get-go. Yes, there are Hollywood produced films and art-house staples on here and necessarily so. Not all sleaze is created equal, but united these films stand.
