Yes, A Star is Born may not offer many twists and turns to a story that’s largely stayed intact since the 1930s, but it remains a heartfelt, assured rendition, with an eponymous star who never ceases to amaze.

Why does this has so much success ? The critical acclaim is unreal ! Everything in the filmmaking and the storytelling is so conventional. I saw some kind of film grammar in the first half hour but it was a sweet illusion. Cooper is mostly interested in performance but he does not know how to stage it so you have, songs after songs, almost exactly the same approach and camera angles. I guess it could have been worse.
An enjoyable and satisfying directing debut from Bradley Cooper who also happens to give his best acting effort yet. Gaga and Elliott also delivers decent scenes that could also have gotten further. The greatest achievement is the cinematography and art direction which are gorgeously well shot but my main issue with the film is that the story pushes its notes way too high (pun intended) but its a good film overall.

I was interested for a simple reason: it seemed like a deeply uncool thing to do—a real you'll-laugh-you'll-cry movie, an old-fashioned "weepie" (and even that term feels out of place today). I have more use for LG's transformation into an actress than BC's into a singer, but as a director he nails chemistry. I'm still not sure this story means anything, but if the only way to prove its point is to hook you, it does.
2.5 Ultra-orthodox, ultra-innocuous, ultra-syrupy, "A Star is Born" gives you an ephemeral pleasure which evaporates from your brain like sweats on Bradley Cooper's forehead. Direction style is so average that it lacks some impact like epical peepee on Grammy, which makes audiences gasp at stupendously deep level. He has weakness to be unable to cut runtime, so if he can cut his own movie brutally, it may be better.
The storyline is all over the place, not enough space for the audience to absorb and feel the emotion. One time they meet each other, the next is Bradley Cooper is having an existential crisis, the next thing people died. Too fast, not touching at all. Other than the final song, the rest of the film is just a moment for you to reflect on your decision to spend 10 euros for this film.
Digital. I'm not fond of demonstrative squeaky voices, and one thing is for sure, this movie come directly from the previous version that had an identical voice and nose in Barbra Streisand and space for similar histrionics. If we except the catchy moment of Cooper's character death, concise and dry, nothing else in this nonsense justifies it. In Portuguese, Gaga is a woman who stutters. Cooper is no Kristofferson...
