I finally saw it and my presumption that Mercedes Cabral was the spectacle of the movie turned out to be a misunderstanding and I have the mainstream entertainment industry to thank for that. On the other hand, this movie moved me so much that I couldn't bare staying near the meat section in the grocery.

Why are people comparing this to Funny Games, or any film by Haneke? The content cannot be the same when the expressive structures are so radically diferent. Here, violence is violent. Mendoza's horror is tied to an equally horrifying axiology, it is rooted in ignorance, prejudice and a pure phisicality of sadism. It has no room for Haneke's depressive nihilism.
